Through the FIA (Fondo Investimenti per l'Abitare), the Italian version of social housing was created.

Private social housing promotes the development of projects and initiatives aimed at increasing the supply of social housing through the resources and implementation methods of the private property market, i.e. through investments and not grants.

The FIA invests in local property funds to build affordable homes, aimed at families unable to meet their housing needs on the market, but with higher incomes than those required to qualify for council housing.
